Raven The Pirate
I’ve had the honor to collaborate with the EDC wizard himself, Sam Tran (Raven The Pirate), on a handful of designs to support his foray into knife design. We started by creating a unique maker’s mark to be milled or lasered onto his knife designs. The purpose of this kind of mark is to quickly identify the maker or designer of a knife at a glance.
Sam and I both are dual creatives. While he is a photographer and I’m a graphic designer, we both have experience with video content and editing. This seemed like the perfect opportunity to collaborate even further and bring this new mark to life.
As part of the launch of his new knife design, Sam and I collaborated on a couple of Instagram reels to get people pumped up for the release. Both videos did really well and together gained 14,000 views and had nearly 1,000 interactions.
Sam’s first knife, the Ryson, was an overnight success. But rather than settle, he set his eyes on his next project - a knife collaboration with the legendary Chaves Knives.
This new venture required a new mark to more align with the aesthetic of Chaves Knives. Sam came to me with the idea of skeletonizing his Raven logo to match the Chaves skull.
The Raven skull had enough holding power that Sam decided to use it as his main logo for his next venture, Raven Artworx.
